"What's for dinner?"

I do not like this time of day
I never know just what I'll say
I feel as if I'm on display
When asked, "What's for dinner?"

I don't mind cooking if we have guests
It's fun to get the table dressed
And when my meal is praised and blessed
I feel like a winner

But the day-in and the day-out cooking
Leaves me panicked and always looking
Wishing it was reservations I was booking
Do you think me a sinner?

For now I will keep dreaming up meals
Even if they aren't ideal
I will eat less if there's no appeal
And then I'll be thinner!

  1. We MUST be sisters! I hate thinking up what to make, and I'm not one to look in cookbooks, although that would probably help. We eat very simple foods, and eat raw vegetables/fruit/salads every night. Healthier and easier.

  2. Okay, you may not want to hear this, but plan a menu! I plan 2 weeks at a time. The days are flexible, but some meals are emergency, 10 minute prep meals for chaotic late nights. You know you will have all you need on hand for 14 dinners. You may not like what you had planned for that specific night, but odds are, something will appeal. Oh, and I always, always, always keep spaghetti and fish on hand. Fish can be pan seared in 5 minutes. Throw it on the table with a salad, and you've got a healthy, delicious meal!

  3. Hey Jamie...I really enjoy cooking! I'm a seasonal cook, so whatever is in the garden, lot's of salads, omelete's, pastas...YUM!!!

Tonight we are having zucchinni slice...for that is what my son has picked from the garden with fresh eggs!

  4. LOL, we all get bored with day-to-day cooking on occasion. How about soups/stews/chili for you this winter? :~D

  5. Your poems always hit the proverbial nail on the head!! Hubby was born in the Kentucky mountains. His mom cooked on a wood cook stove. A typical breakfast consisted of: bacon, sausage, pork chops, fried potatoes, eggs, biscuits, gravy, and fried apples. Supper was a similar tour-de-force. Hubby's yankee wife could not compete. After 40-some years of marriage he adjusted. :)) Thanks for the smile.
